Meijer has announced the outcome of its fourth Meijer Team Gives program, which resulted in donations to nearly 500 nonprofits across Midwest communities. This initiative allows team members to select and support local organizations that have a significant impact on their communities.
"Meijer Team Gives is a deeply personal program for us because it allows our team members across the Midwest to support non-profits making a meaningful impact in their communities," stated Rick Keyes, President & CEO of Meijer. He emphasized the importance of empowering employees to choose nonprofits that resonate with them personally.
The program enables each store, distribution facility, and supply chain location to donate $10,000 to a nonprofit within their community. Employees collaborate to identify and select organizations that are important both to them and the areas they serve.
This year, about 30 percent of selected organizations received donations from Meijer for the first time. In Detroit, Make Food Not Waste was chosen by the Rivertown Market location for its efforts in food waste prevention and recycling solutions in Southeast Michigan.
"We have a long-standing relationship with Make Food Not Waste through our Simply Give hunger relief program," said Elizabeth Clement, Store Director at the Meijer Rivertown Market. She highlighted the impact of food repurposing on local families facing food insecurity.
In Cleveland's west side, Avon Meijer supported French Creek Foundation, an organization focused on Avon's French Creek District development. "Our $10,000 Meijer Team Gives donation will support their Christmas Tree Lighting Festival," said Michael Jodrey, Store Director at Avon Meijer.
Indianapolis saw one of its local stores choosing SON Foundation as its beneficiary. This foundation offers accommodations for cancer patients undergoing treatment. "Any foundation related to cancer is near and dear to the hearts of our team members," noted Rebecca Miller, Store Director at Greenwood's Meijer.
Meijer operates over 500 locations throughout the Midwest and employs more than 70,000 people. The company donates at least six percent of its profits annually to strengthen communities it serves.
