The Village of Homer Glen is actively recruiting for positions on its Village Board Trustee, Plan Commission, and various committees. For those interested in becoming part of the Plan Commission or joining one of the committees, there is an application available online.
Those aiming for a Village Board Trustee position are instructed to submit a resume and letter of interest directly to the Mayor at the provided email address, MayorChristina@homerlgenil.org.
To qualify as a candidate for elected office, specific criteria must be met. Candidates must be at least 18 years old, eligible and registered to vote, and have lived in Homer Glen for at least one year before appointment or election. U.S. citizenship is also required. There are also legal restrictions; candidates must not have convictions for severe offenses like bribery or perjury, and no conflicts of interest should disqualify them from the position.
Additionally, candidates must complete Open Meetings Act (OMA) training. Preferred qualifications include the ability to integrate technical, interpersonal, and leadership skills effectively, possess strong communication skills, and demonstrate sound ethical judgment. Candidates should also be comfortable speaking publicly and developing professional relationships with community members and colleagues.
Further duties involve reviewing board documents, conducting site visits for upcoming cases, and maintaining financial literacy for budget and policy decisions. The ability to analyze various data and attend regular board meetings is necessary. Familiarity with parliamentary procedure and prior community involvement is also advantageous.
Candidates should be willing to engage with the community, participate in village events, and actively contribute to community development.
