Meijer has announced that its Simply Give hunger relief program has reached a significant milestone, donating $100 million to alleviate hunger in the Midwest since its launch in 2008. Over the years, the program has contributed nearly 900 million meals through partnerships with local food pantries across six states.
"For the last 17 years, the Meijer Simply Give program has fueled the missions of food pantries for countless communities across the Midwest, ensuring neighbors in need have access to nourishing food," stated Rick Keyes, President & CEO of Meijer. He emphasized that this achievement highlights the critical partnerships between Meijer stores and local food pantries, as well as customer generosity and team member dedication.
In recognition of this milestone, Meijer will donate an additional $1.5 million to support Simply Give pantries that serve individuals and families facing food insecurity in the Midwest.
The success of Simply Give is attributed to customers' willingness to support their communities by purchasing $10 Simply Give cards. These cards are converted into Meijer food-only gift cards and distributed to local food pantry partners.
"Our food pantry partners are truly the heartbeat of our Simply Give program, and we are thrilled to celebrate this impressive milestone with them," said Melissa Conway, Director of Community Partnerships & Giving at Meijer. She expressed gratitude towards pantry partners for their commitment and compassion in providing meals to those in need.
The program also includes special initiatives like Double Match Days and events such as the Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give to enhance contributions.
Meijer operates over 500 locations throughout the Midwest and is known for pioneering one-stop shopping. The company employs more than 70,000 team members and donates at least six percent of its profit annually to community strengthening efforts.
