The Homer Athletic Club has announced the schedule for evaluations for the upcoming recreation basketball season. The evaluations will take place at Young School on various dates for different divisions.
The schedule is as follows: 3rd and 4th grade boys with last names A-L will have their evaluation on Friday, October 24 from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by those with last names M-Z from 7 to 8 p.m. The 5th and 6th grade boys are scheduled for Tuesday, October 28 from 7 to 8 p.m. The 7th and 8th grade boys will be evaluated on Thursday, October 30 from 7 to 8 p.m. For girls, the 3rd and 4th graders will have their session on Monday, November 3 from 7 to 8 p.m., while the combined session for 5th through 8th graders will be held Tuesday, November 4 from 7 to 8 p.m.
According to the announcement, rookie players in kindergarten through second grade do not need to attend evaluations. All players and coaches are expected to participate. "If unable to attend, your child will still be placed on a team. NOTE Teammate requests will only be honored for those attending evaluations and are not guaranteed. Evaluations are designed to assess talent levels of individual players to create balanced teams. For this reason, it is important ALL players try and attend," said Ron Spicher, VP HAC Basketball.
Players are advised to wear gym or basketball shoes. Bringing a basketball is optional. Coaches are asked to stay an additional 30 to 60 minutes after their division’s evaluation for drafting purposes. For the 3rd and 4th grade boys, drafting will occur after the second session. Assistant coaches are encouraged to attend and assist with the process.
"Thanks, and see you soon!" added Spicher.
