Meijer has opened its newest Independence Market in Clarkston, Michigan, part of a mixed-use development near Sashabaw and I-75. The market, which is the sixth neighborhood market for Meijer and the fifth in Michigan, aims to provide value and convenience for local customers. The store director, Robert Lajcaj, stated, "Independence Market represents a way to provide convenience to our customers here on the east side of Michigan, where communities are growing, and residents are looking for shopping opportunities close to home that offer value and fit their busy lifestyles."

At the store's opening, Meijer's Executive Chairman Hank Meijer and President & CEO Rick Keyes participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Keyes expressed Meijer's commitment to the local community, stating, "Meijer is committed to investing in the communities where our customers and team members live and work, and that philosophy will guide how our Independence Market team embraces the community."

The new market, located at 5820 Waldon Road, is Meijer's largest neighborhood market, at 50,000 square feet. It includes a wide variety of groceries and products, with a larger selection of groceries and expanded health and beauty departments. "We value this community and are excited to continue growing our presence here to provide even more convenience for our neighbors," Keyes added.

The store features local products such as coffee from Shaded Bloom Coffee Roasters and ice cream from Cook's Dairy Farm. It also includes Honcho A-Go-Go, a restaurant and café serving Latin street food, which is a branch of downtown Clarkston's Honcho Latin Street Food & Coffee. An exterior mural by local artist Chelsea Hensbergen showcases the region's geography and agriculture.

Independence Market offers the Meijer mPerks rewards program and accepts WIC and SNAP benefits. The store is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. It offers amenities such as an electric vehicle charging station and proximity to community walking paths.

In support of the community, Independence Market donated funds to local organizations including Social Medium, On a Dragonfly's Wings, and The Happy Teeth Project. Meijer is known for donating at least 6 percent of its net profit annually to charities and has chosen Clarkston United Methodist Church Food Pantry as its Simply Give partner.

Meijer operates more than 500 locations across the Midwest and is known for its contributions to its communities and diverse product offerings.
